Alexey Dreev on two related White systems that share the same developing move, an early Bf4. Published by Chess Stars in 2016.

Fifteen chapters in three parts. Part 1 takes the Exchange Slav, 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.cxd5 cxd5 4.Bf4, which Dreev recommends partly because it sidesteps the Slav main lines and avoids the Meran and Moscow systems altogether. He describes the resulting fight as positional and low risk, White pressing a small edge with the extra tempo. Part 2 covers the Petrosian Variation, 3.Nc3 Be7 4.cxd5 exd5 5.Bf4, which he presents as a favorable version of the Carlsbad. Part 3 gives the largest share to the Classical Queen’s Gambit with 5.Bf4, a rival to the older 5.Bg5. Complete games and an index of variations follow.

Best for: tournament players who want a solid 1.d4 system. Advanced.
