The second volume of Ivan Cheparinov’s 1.d4 repertoire, given over entirely to the Slav and Semi-Slav. Published by Thinkers Publishing in 2022. Paperback, 480 pages.
Twelve chapters, ordered by how far Black commits. The early ones take the rare third and fourth moves and the Noteboom Defense, then the Slav with 4…a6, then a long sequence on 4…dxc4 5.a4 Bf5 6.Ne5, broken down through 6…e6, 6…Nbd7 7.Nc4 and 7…Qc7. The last three chapters cover the Cambridge Springs, the Botvinnik Defense and the Moscow Defense. Cheparinov is candid in the preface that the Slav is solid and that he cannot promise an advantage everywhere, so he aims at the best practical chances, and he suggests working through the lines on a board first and checking them with an engine afterward.
Best for: tournament players building a 1.d4 repertoire. Advanced.
