A puzzle book of 212 mating positions from Bruce Alberston and Fred Wilson, published by Russell Enterprises in 2011. It is a revised edition, with additional material, of 202 Surprising Checkmates, originally published by Dover in 1998.
The positions are ordered by difficulty rather than by theme: 100 mates in one, then 50 mates in two with White to play and 50 with Black to play, then 12 mates in three. An introduction and a short section of definitions come first, and the answers are given as diagrams at the back, so a solution can be checked against a picture instead of a move list.
Best for: beginners and improving club players working on mating vision.
