A collection of mating problems assembled by Yakov Vladimirov, first published in Russian in 2019 and issued in English by Quality Chess in 2024. Hardcover, 376 pages. Vladimirov has composed since the 1950s and has been a grandmaster of chess composition since 1988.
Four sections, in the order a solver meets them: “A Two-mover? It’s Very Simple!”, “The Queen of Chess Problems” (three-movers), “Through the Maze of Variations” (mates in four and longer), and “In the World of Chess Fantasy” (fairy chess). Most problems are by other composers, with a selection of Vladimirov’s own. Indexes of themes and of composers close the book.
Best for: solvers, and players training imagination and candidate-move thinking. Club and up.
