The book is split down the middle. Part I takes White’s point of view across seven chapters: controlling the center, exploiting superior mobility, and then punishing each of Black’s typical errors, opening the position too early, counterattacking too early, weakening pawn moves, errors of judgment and irregular defenses. Part II turns the board around for five chapters on seizing the initiative, meeting gambits, defending a powerful attack, taking over the attack, and exploiting unusual openings. The editor’s notes close the book.
Best for: beginner and club players learning when to attack and when to hold. Any level.
